A day after killing Simon Crawford, Tanner was ready to eliminate another one of the hit men who were going around calling themselves by his name.

Unlike the others, the one he was after today was several notches above an amateur and might even be a true professional.

Not wanting to risk Michael’s life any more than was necessary, Tanner had enlisted Duke for help. As usual, Duke’s contacts and connections came through. In less than a day they had replaced a balcony door and its surrounding glass with bullet-resistant material. It made the door more difficult to slide open, due to the material’s additional weight. That hardly mattered, as it would remain closed until the threat had ended.

They were at the Barlow condo. It was registered under a separate alias. If the assassin wanted to kill Michael, he would either have to make it inside the building or use a sniper rifle. Tanner was certain they would opt to use a rifle, even though it was a difficult shot.

If he was correct, then the perfect spot to take a shot at Michael was from the roof of an office building across the street. It was the only nearby structure that could be used to fire over at the twelfth floor where Michael would be.

If Tanner was wrong, and the assassin decided to breach the building, it would also work out. Tanner had Duke install a pair of one-inch thick steel doors at the condo’s entrances along with several tough locks. By the time the assassin realized he wasn’t getting in, Tanner would be on him. As an added precaution, Tanner had armed both Kate and Michael.
